It has been a week since development came to an end on Advent Heroes, and a matter of days since that decision was made final. Over the course of that time, several things have occurred that have made me question the viability of staying active in the field of game development. First, I only allowed myself a twelve-month timeframe for reasons that cannot be publicly disclosed. That time is now a few weeks past the halfway point. Second, the continuation of the online presence of Zero Break Games would also put me in a position where I would lose the support of those who are close to me (and for the same reasons as mentioned above). Third, continuation of the online presence of Zero Break Games was dependent on the ability to deliver a marketable product, which with the cancelation of Advent Heroes is not likely to occur at this point. Finally, while I have identified a replacement concept that will carry over some aspects from Advent Heroes, the development plan for the new game has faced significant pushback with my testers in relation to the requirements for the broad support that I would prefer to maintain. Furthermore, changing development tools to address this negative reception based on community preference would reduce or completely eliminate my ability to pursue a broad multi-platform release. and using development tools from a different vendor would also be prohibitively expensive - in fact, just this past month I found out that Unity has changed its multiplatform development licensing to require a term contract for a service tier which is prohibitively expensive for what I am willing or able to pay.
Therefore, I have made the difficult decision to refocus all active matters of Zero Break Games (excluding those which are too far along to be given an immediate, non-quality termination). This will entail the following procedures:
I do not make this decision lightly. However, the ability to deliver on what Zero Break Games was built to do has been negatively impacted by the events of the past few weeks, and I do not have the resources to continue this venture beyond its current commitment if a strategic alternative cannot be identified within the remaining time that I have on the schedule. Therefore, I am making this decision now so that I do not encounter any major issues either personally or professionally by having to do so at the last possible minute.
I appreciate your understanding and apologize for the inconvenience. Perhaps one day we'll meet again, but for now I'm leaving this behind and moving on to whatever comes next.
