Zero Break Games is making immediate changes to its development, publishing and scouting provisions in response to the recent developments with platform support on Xbox consoles. Owing to the required backend support and provisions no longer being accepted by Microsoft, the discovery of technical issues which preclude the continuation of our current development procedures, and for the consistency of policy across all approved platforms, the decision has been made to no longer scout, publish or otherwise accept projects which have been developed with RPG Maker products and services. This change is effective immediately and will not be negotiable for any reason whatsoever.
This is not a decision that is made lightly. However, the reality is that as a partner developer for the platforms in question, Zero Break Games is required to comply with all aspects of publishing which in this case means the abandonment of the affected development paradigm. Although there are other potential alternatives that exist in relation to the affected development tools, these provisions are not cost-effective for our current budgetary requirements and are also not guaranteed to function in all cases.
In place of the RPG Maker development paradigm which has been used until now, Zero Break Games will begin the immediate acceptance and development of projects created with Unreal, Godot and MonoGame as the first round of additions to the supported list of development tools. Furthermore, the exclusive focus on retro-style experiences will be phased out and expanded to include games with more modern aesthetics while still maintaining the goals of creating and publishing games with unconventional designs and mechanics, the everyday issues arising from perspectives and challenges at the personal level, and unique characters with unexpected stories to their names.
As a matter of policy, Zero Break Games can neither provide comment on specific technical factors or other aspects related to internal business decisions, nor remit the discussion of any rumors or speculative matters which may arise from such decisions and therefore will not discuss this further even if requested. However, it is our hope that this expansion in what is accepted under the Zero Break Games label will benefit our efforts to fulfill our mission in relation to game development.
